Family Recovery from Addictions
The Family Recovery Program
For family recovery from addictions the Family Recovery Program is a pivotal component to the effectiveness of successful addiction treatment and recovery. The staff at Lakeview understands that the disease of addiction and alcoholism is a family illness. It requires family recovery from addictions suffered by any and all members of the family and significant others whom have been directly affected. In many cases, the behaviors and feelings expressed over the years have created fertile ground for the birth of a dysfunctional family system or enabled one to continue to flourish.
Individuals in the family suffering from addictive behaviors of drug abuse, prescription drug addiction or alcohol abuse are rarely aware how their actions affect the people around them. In most cases, they are too concerned with their drug addiction to even care. They have no idea what it means to establish healthy boundaries, much less effectively support those choices. In some cases, a person may suffer from childhood traumas (emotional, sexual or physical) that have shaped their belief systems in ways still unfamiliar to them. All of these matters must be examined in order for family recovery from addictions to take place. The Family Recovery Program does just that.

Our Family Recovery Program Complements Our Addiction Treatment Program
The Family Recovery Program is a powerful four day recovery experience at our addiction treatment program facility. Family members along with their loved one will explore the development of their family system. In this family recovery for addictions, core beliefs that function as the basis for decisions and behaviors will be challenged by our licensed family therapist. In the Family Recovery Program we will discuss the need for personal boundaries and how to communicate and cope with feelings when those boundaries are violated. Lastly, everyone will identify their role within the family (wounded child, hero, lost child or scapegoat) and how that role manifests itself in their relationships. Whether addressing codependency, learning to identify toxic from non-toxic relationships, or resolving past traumas, the goal of the Family Recovery Program is to assist families in becoming healthy individuals.
Family Recovery Addictions, Relapse Prevention, Intervention and Our Family Recovery Program
Prior to attending our Family Recovery Program parents and significant others of those in this drug rehab program felt “powerless” over what to do when drug abuse or alcohol abuse reared its ugly head. In far too many cases, decisions were based upon guilt, fear or anger instead of understanding drug addiction and alcoholism and knowing what steps to take. During the Family Recovery Program family members will be educated as part of the family recovery from addictions and relapse prevention program. Family members will be educated as to the signs and symptoms relating to relapse and what preventive actions may prove helpful. In the case where relapse does occur, we will provide information relating to the intervention process. We do not expect family members to be addiction treatment professionals. Family members can always call staff associated with the relapse prevention program, family program or even the Alumni Coordinator if assistance is required. You do not have to wait for relapse in your family recovery from addiction to occur to call our addiction treatment center for help.
